Things to do:
- Watch bands. I thought the Scissor Sisters, Linkin Park, and The Magic Numbers were good. I could barely hear a thing at the 3FM stage though, so Korn and Evanescence may have been good, but I don’t know.
- Drink beer. Although I’m not a big beer drinker, so I only had one. But it was before lunchtime so I think that’s impressive.
- Try to work out who exactly is in the Smashing Pumpkins these days. It’s certainly not the band I remember from about 10 years ago.
- Eat food: some overpriced, some quite good. The pizza slices are highly recommended.
- Try to explain Wolfmother to Dutch people when you don’t really understand them yourself. Unicorns? Big hair? I’m missing something. Someone in the moshpit did have a Australian flag though.
- Take something to sit on: a chair or a rug or a plastic mat preferably.
- Take all-weather gear: sunglasses, ponchos, coats etc. Pink gumboots are popular and practical.
- Buy a pink hat from the Amnesty stand. Dance with the Amnesty dancers.
- Follow Giel Beelen around. Although security were following him too, so no chance of getting close.
- Watch fireworks.
Things not to do:
- Light fires: security will put them out very quickly.
- Crowd-surf: crowdsurfen verboden! Naughty, naughty.
- Attempt to take food in. We saw a plastic bag with six bread rolls disposed of at the security checkpoint.
- Get home at 2:30am because your bus didn’t leave until midnight, then it decided to take the scenic route around Eindhoven. (And I’m not even mentioning what time the bus left Eindhoven in the morning.) Next time I’m taking the train.
